The revelations of the new edition of Greek magazine «HOT DOC» (out on Thursday,7/3), the magazine which revealed the names of more than 2.000 wealthy Greeks with Swiss bank accounts, provoke serious moral questions concerning Democracy itself. Ilias Philipakopoulos, the recently appointed by the prime minister Antonis Samaras director of the ruling New Democracy party (director of the General Secretary of the party, Manolis Kefalogiannis), is a supporter of the Greek junta of 1967-1974. He is accused of actions against students of the National Technical University during the military dictatorship. Philipakopoulos was president of the appointed by the junta student’s union. «HOT DOC» magazine is publishing a considerable amount of letters sent by Philipakopoulos to the dictator colonel Papadopoulos through which he congratulates him for the «Country Savour Revolution» and its accomplishments. Even when Greece was expelled from the Council of Europe because of its antidemocratic regime, Philipakopoulos congratulates the dictator for confronting the European «barbarians».
The same man was appointed by prime minister Samaras as a guardian of the european perspective of Greece, which he keeps mentioning, and of course of Democracy.
Moreover, as it is revealed by the magazine «HOT DOC», Philipakopoulos has been accused in the past by the trade unions representatives of his own party (New Democracy) and he was convicted recently (on first degree) in a year imprisonment and deprivation of his political rights. Despite his CV, Philipakopoulos remains a highly ranked member of a democratic party.
The attack with gunshots targeting the label at the New Democracy party headquarters on January 14th is a strike against democracy. How else can anyone describe, though, the fact that behind the label was working a junta sympathizer who enjoys a high level administrative post in a democratic party? The prime minister and president of New Democracy party Antonis Samaras is solely responsible of restoring the aberration from the democratic believes through the immediate expulsion from his party of the junta sympathizer.
